Challenge for Bhuria is to end factionalism in MP Congress

Newly elected Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kantilal Bhuria will face the challenge of strengthening the party, which has been riddled with factionalism in the state.

Bhopal: Newly elected Madhya Pradesh
Congress chief Kantilal Bhuria will face the challenge of
strengthening the party, which has been riddled with
factionalism in the state.

Bhuria, who is also a Union Minister, was appointed as
the state party chief last week in place of Suresh Pachouri,
who was appointed Madhya Pradesh Congress president sometime
before the 2008 Assembly elections in the state.

It is now being hoped that under Bhuria`s leadership
factionalism in the party would be curbed, party sources said.

The fact that he happens to be a tribal leader may also
help the Congress in some ways.

Bhuria is at present Union Minister for Tribal Affairs
and is likely to hold the two posts at least for some time.

However, he would have to work hard to rejuvenate the
Congress, which lost consecutive assembly elections in 2003
and 2008.

Under Pachouri`s leadership the Congress did improve
slightly upon its performance in the previous elections but it
was not enough to prevent the BJP from a victory.
