Bhopal: Opposition Congress and Bahujan
Samaj Party members Tuesday walked out of the Madhya Pradesh
Assembly to protest against alleged corruption in purchase of
wheat and lakhs of tonnes of wheat getting rotten as it was
lying in the open.
The matter was raised through a calling attention motion
by Arif Aqueel, Dr Govind Singh and N P Prajapati (all
Congress) who said that there was all-round corruption and
widespread irregularities in the purchase of wheat at support
They said that middlemen from Rajasthan, Maharashtra and
Uttar Pradesh had brought wheat and sold it in Madhya Pradesh
at a profit of Rs 200 per quintal while wheat produced by
farmers in the state was not purchased.
Congress members also alleged that lakhs of tonnes of
wheat that was kept in the open had become unfit for
consumption following rains.
The Leader of the Opposition Ajay Singh said that the
State Government instead of looking after the interests of
farmers was taking care of middlemen.
Ram Lakhan Singh of the BSP also spoke on the issue and
his party MLAs also joined the Congress MLAs in walk out.
