Datia (Madhya Pradesh): In another shameful incident, a Swiss female tourist was gang-raped by seven to eight persons at a forest area in Datia district of Madhya Pradesh, police said on Saturday.

The victim was on a cycling trip with her husband at the time of the incident.

Twenty people have been detained on the basis of suspicion and are being questioned in connection with the incident, DIG(Chambal range) DK Arya told a news agency.

A rape case has been registered, police said, adding that seven to eight unidentified persons were involved in the crime. No arrest has been made so far.

The incident took place at Jharia village, eight km near Datia town, at around 9 pm last night when the 39-year-old woman along with her husband was touring the region on a bicycle as part of their India tour.

The couple--who are adventure tourists-- was camping at a forest area for the night while on their way back from Orchha, home to temples of Lord Ram, and were proceeding to Agra when they were attacked. The couple were planning to visit Agra in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh to see the Taj Mahal.

The woman was allegedly gang-raped in the presence of her husband, police said.

The victim was rushed to Gwalior, about 100 km from here, and her medical tests in a hospital have confirmed rape, police sources said.

The tourists told police that their camera, Rs 10,000 in cash and a laptop were missing.

"They (the couple) were coming from Orchha on a bicycle and they decided to stay in a forest. A lot of tourists throng the area. They were beaten up by a few people who took away their laptops," said ML Dhody, a Sub-Divisional police officer.

"We are scouring the forest area in search of those involved in the crime," Datia SP CS Solanki told a news agency.

Madhya Pradesh govt slammed

Chairperson of National Commission for Women Mamta Sharma said the MP government should take the incident very seriously and demanded strictest punishment to the culprits.

Leader of Opposition in MP Assembly Ajay Singh said the incident was a "blot" on the BJP government's name and also put the state in poor light abroad.

when there is a dispute with itly which is discussed along with delhi gang rape internationally,at the same time another incident with a foreign tourist,it seems that the charecter of the people is declineing at a faster rate which unless checked will defininitely be a majoe threat in future.blane to politician, wrong, becoz they act as per the beheviour of the people, punish to physical body will not serve the purpose.Hence it is the proper time to redifine the exact meaning of development.the country is focusing much in physical development, proper attention is not given on the value based human development

When Cong. itself is not taking action against the Delhi rapists, how can they question others? If people see the ution of the Delhi rapists, they will fear. Now, no one fears. We have an actionless govt. which is giving wrong signals to rapists of India.

This is truely shameful situation where women across nation cannot even freely roam due to the fear of being molested by some bunch of retards. I am failing to understand the kind of upbringing of these culprits, how someone can not think once before raping a women like beast. Moreover, politicians just for a reason to create chaos in assembly blaming someone who didn`t do his / her job! I mean come on, it doesn`t matter who is going to rule the nation, if you want to create difference, you need to bring strict laws like Singapore, Kuwait. More than disappointed.

I think now to put an end to all this is start hanging people who have been convicted and pronounced to be hanged by the court. Merely pronouncing verdit in 10 days, 15days carrys no meaning till its uted. Fear has to sown not shown.

So what is new? We are becoming world leaders at gang rapes. Let us not always think in the short term such as legislation etc., Nothing will work because this trait has been ingrained in us from time immemorial. This how we treat our women, this is how we treat any woman, this is how we show our machoness, this ho we will try to handle the increasing awareness, education of women. It is a question of power and we, as men will do just this to keep our power!

I`m currently living in the UK and am an Indian citizen. I`m ashamed to be one now. The civilized world only sees us as a country of rapists. Indian men generally seem like a deplorable barbaric bunch. And I think my stars everyday I`m marrying a good german man whose country is famed for the way they tackle rape seriously and treat women with respect. My advice to Indian women? LEAVE.
