‘Gita Saar’ in MP school syllabus opposed

Peeved at MP govt`s plan to teach `Gita Saar` in government schools, a local organisation, Tuesday demanded that the essence of their holy texts too should be taught along with it.

Bhopal: Peeved at Madhya Pradesh
government`s plan to teach `Gita Saar` in government schools,
a local organisation comprising clerics and people from all
religions, Tuesday demanded that the essence of their holy texts
too should be taught along with it.

"We want that essence of all religions should be taught
along with the Gita`s gist (Saar) in schools from the next
academic session," Harmony Foundation Madhya Pradesh (HFMP)
member H S Hardenia told reporters here.

He said the Madhya Pradesh government`s plan to encompass
in school curriculum the Gita`s gist only, was against the
secular character of the Constitution.

"If the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh will go ahead
with the plan to teach only the Gita`s essence, we are going
to oppose it tooth and nail," Hardenia declared.

B K Kiran of Prajapati Brahma Kumari Ishwariya
Vishwavidyalay, Madhya Pradesh Catholic Church spokesman
Father Anand Muttungal said that if all religions will be
taught in the schools, it will foster the spirit of
brotherhood and harmony between all religions.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan last
month had announced that the government is planning to
incorporate `Gita Saar` in school curricula.
