Morena: Driven by superstition, a `Baba,`
Avtar Das (65) on Wednesday allegedly killed himself by immolation
claiming that he was taking "Samadhi" for people`s welfare,
under Rauruya police station near here.
After pouring kerosene on his body, the Baba, Avtar Das
reportedly set fire himself, police said.
After the incident, thousands of people flocked at the
Hanuman Temple, where the Baba took the extreme step, and are
worshipping there with a belief that a miracle has taken
place.
The deceased Baba, Avtar Das had come to this Hanuman
Temple from Mau town in Bhind district, a fortnight back,
police said.
A week ago, the Baba had announced that he will take
Samadhi for people`s welfare and following this some persons
were present at the spot where the incident took place, locals
said.
Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar Singh said that
the Baba`s death was being investigated. He said that it is
too early to comment on the matter.
Asked about reports that Sub-Divisional Officer of Police
(SDOP) M P Sharma and the area`s Town Inspector Ravi Badhoria
too had bowed down before the dead Baba, he said he had also
got this information and it was being probed.
