Rajgarh (MP): In a shocking incident, a 27-year-old dalit's both hands and legs were chopped off by three persons in Rajgarh district apparently over a petty issue, police said on Saturday.

The victim, identified as Jagdish, has been referred to Bhopal for treatment and was in a serious condition, they said.

The incident took place yesterday morning at Pagari Bangla village under Malawar police station limits when the accused, identified as Arjun Thakur, Shiva Gurjar and Madan, attacked Jagdish with an axe and a sharp-edged weapon since he had complained to police against them for allegedly stealing an electricity meter from his agriculture field.

Harbouring a grudge against Jagdish for approaching police, the three attacked him, police said, adding a case has been registered against the accused though no arrest has been made so far.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president Kantilal Bhuria has strongly condemned the incident saying the state administration has become "defunct" as the chief minister remains occupied with political "dramatics".

He also demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and has also sought Rs 5,000 as a life-time monthly assistance for the victim.
