Indore: The Lokayukta police have registered
case against 17 persons, including BJP MLA Ramesh Mendola, in
the alleged multi-crore Sugni Devi College land scam,
officials said today.
However, no case was registered against Madhya Pradesh
Industries Minister Kailash Vijaywargiya, during whose tenure
as Mayor the alleged scam took place.
Lokayukta police were probing the allegation following
the directions of a special court after a complaint by former
Minister and senior Congress leader Suresh Seth.
Talking to reporters, Seth alleged that though the land
scam, involving over Rs 100 crore, took place during the
tenure of Vijaywargiya as Indore Mayor, no case was registered
against him due to pressure from the state government.
Seth said he had submitted sufficient documentary
evidence against Vijaywargiya to the court in this regard.
Besides Mendola, an FIR has been registered against Vijay
Kothari, Manish Sanghvi, Naginbhai Kothari and 13 then
officers of the Indore Municipal Corporation under various
sections of Anti-Corruption Act and Section 120 B (punishment
for criminal conspiracy) of the IPC, they said.
