IPS murder: Manoj Gurjar not manning tractor, says his brother
Indore: A defence witness today told a special court that Manoj Gurjar, the prime accused in 2012 murder case of IPS officer Narendra Kumar Singh, was not driving the tractor-trolley that allegedly crushed Singh to death when he tried to intercept it.

Defence witness Vakil Singh, elder brother of Gurjar, deposed before the special CBI court of Justice Anupam Srivastava here.

He was cross-examined by senior public prosecutor A H Khan and defence lawyer Mahendra Morya.
Vakil claimed that his brother Manoj was "illegally detained" by Banmore police station after Singh`s death.
"Manoj`s tractor-trolley had broken down on the roadside at Bhagatipura in Banmore at around 5:30 PM on March 8, 2012, which was different from the site where the IPS officer was found dead", Morya told reporters quoting Vakil.

Vakil further told the court that when he, along with his maternal uncle Virendra Singh, went to Banmore police station, police illegally detained Manoj. "My brother was falsely implicated and arrested in the murder case", he claimed.

Singh (30), posted as the SDOP (sub-divisional officer of police), Banmore, in Morena district was allegedly mowed down by mining mafia on March 8, 2012 at Banmore industrial town when he tried to intercept a tractor-trolley, allegedly driven by Gurjar, on suspicion of it being laden with illegally-mined stones.
Vakil further claimed that his youngest brother Bunty alias Asaram, who kept a watch at the malfunctioned trolley at Bhagatipura, was illegally detained by police for 12 days.

"A separate complaint was lodged in a court in Banmore against illegal detention of Bunty", Vakil said.
