Bhopal: With the detention of five persons, the Special Task Force of Madhya Pradesh police on Thursday claimed to have cracked the case of murder of a free-lance journalist
and his family-members in Umaria.
The murder was linked to kidnapping of a boy in the Umaria district, top-level police sources said.
Hemant Jharia, son of a PWD engineer, had been kidnapped by those detained today, and it is suspected that the murdered journalist, Chandrika Rai, had played some role.
Though Umaria Police claimed that the boy was rescued without parents having to pay ransom, investigators believe that money changed hands.
Dispute over sharing of spoils between kidnappers and Rai could have led to his murder, police suspect.
Rai, his wife, son and daughter were found murdered inside their house in Umaria town on February 18. The case is being investigated by STF.
STF`s Additional Director General, Sanjay Choudhry, visited the slain journalist`s house earlier in the day, and told reporters that police had cracked the case.
