Bhopal: Police on Monday confirmed that the man, resembling the notorious Davinder Singh alias 'Bunty chor', who was held yesterday, is the same criminal, against whom, a number of cases had been registered in the national capital and other places.

"A Delhi police team, which arrived here on Monday, confirmed on the basis of photographs and finger prints that the arrested person is the notorious Bunty Chor," City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Kotwali Area, Manu Vyas sais.

He was held on January 14, following a tip-off that a man resembling the infamous Bunty Chor was roaming in the old city area.

Initially, he tried to fool the police saying his name is Napolean Jesus and also told the police that he came here from Hong Kong and later said that he belonged to Nepal, police said.

In order to confirm his identity, police took his finger prints and sent them to Delhi police for matching them with Bunty's records, the officer said.

Bunty Chor has been reportedly involved in over 500 thefts and has managed to give the police a slip on a number of occasions, police said.

He had also participated in the reality show Bigg Boss but was soon asked to leave due to his behaviour.

Bollywood actor Abhay Deol's character in the film 'Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye' was said to be based on him.

Bhopal police are also probing the purpose of his visit to Bhopal, and the place he is putting up in the old city area, they added.
