Bhopal: The Minorities Forum of India
(MFI) today demanded a judicial probe into the violence at
Obaidullahganj town in adjoining Raisen district, alleging
that one particularly community had been targeted.
"We want that a High Court Judge should carry out the
probe in the violence to bring the truth to the fore and
prosecuting the guilty people, irrespective of their
religion, involved in it," MFI Madhya Pradesh President
Munawwar Saleem told reporters here.
He said a simple fight between two families took
communal colour, adding that it was because of police and
administration failure that violence broke out in which
members of a community faced the wrath.
Shops, houses, tractors, motorbikes of a community
were targeted and destroyed in violence and for this the
concerned officials who failed to check this violence should
be prosecuted, Saleem said.
He said that curfew was imposed a day after the
incident and the delay fomented the trouble.
Violence erupted following a clash between members of
two communities at a marriage reception in Obaidullahganj on
June 6, which left one person dead and three injured.
On June 7 cases of arson and violence were reported
following which the district administration clamped curfew in
the area.
