MP BJP launches stir against Centre over coal supply issue
MP BJP president Prabhat Jha on Monday launched his party`s `Satyagraha andolan` against the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre.
Shahdol: Protesting the alleged
discrimination in the supply of coal to power plants in Madhya
Pradesh, State BJP President Prabhat Jha on Monday launched his
party`s `Satyagraha andolan` against the Congress-led UPA
Government at the Centre.
"The Centre is discriminating against Madhya Pradesh
and supplying inadequate coal to it," Jha told the protesters
at Dhanpuri area near here.
"Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has petitioned
the Centre five times for adequate coal supply to the state to
run thermal power stations efficiently, but the Central
Government has not done anything in this regard."
He said the Centre had asked Madhya Pradesh to import
coal despite the fact that coal was produced in the state and
importing it would be a very costly affair. "If we import
coal, power tariff will go up considerably and result in a lot
of inconvenience to the people."
Madhya Pradesh has enough coal stock and the same
should be diverted to its thermal power stations instead of
sending it from far-off areas, the BJP leader said.
The state`s coal was being sent to states like Bihar,
Jharkhand, Gujarat and Maharashtra causing hardship to the
local people, Jha said.
He said BJP`s protest will continue till the state is
allocated adequate coal from the Centre.
