MP: Ex-MLA among 21 awarded sentence in promotions case

Four persons, including a former MLA, have been sentenced to three years in jail by a local court in connection with a 2003 case of granting promotions to ineligible persons in the district's Sewa Sahkari Samiti.

Besides, 17 others accused in the case were awarded imprisonment of two to three years.

Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Shotriya yesterday sentenced four persons, including ex-MLA Rakesh Saxena, to three years' imprisonment and also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of them in the case filed by Madhya Pradesh's Economic Offences Wing based on a complaint.

The complainant had alleged that the Samiti's Board had given promotions to ineligible persons by violating rules.

The court held the accused guilty under section 13.1 of Prevention of Corruption Act and sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 409 (criminal breach of trust) of the IPC.
