Bhopal: Former Madhya Pradesh minister Mukesh Nayak has been elected as the state president of the Red Cross Society, sources said.

In the elections held on Tuesday, another former minister, Alka Jain was elected vice-president and Manoj Agrawal as the treasurer.

In its hundred years of history, this was the first time that elections were held for the Red Cross Society, sources said.

Congratulating the newly-elected office-bearers, Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav expressed hope that the organisation does not become a stage for political activities, as the organisation was meant for serving the downtrodden.
