Six arrested for illegal mining in Madhya Pradesh
Six persons were arrested and two tractor-trolleys laden with stones along with a JCB machine were seized.
Morena (MP): Six persons were arrested and two tractor-trolleys laden with stones along with a JCB machine were seized in the district here today as part of the ongoing drive against illegal mining, police said.
Acting on a tip-off that illegal mining was going on in Rancholi area on revenue land, a joint police team from Noorabad, Rithoura and Banmore police stations raided the place and seized the tractor-trolleys and JCB machine from the spot.
According to police, they arrested six persons from the spot. The members of the mining group opened fire at the police and tried to escape, but were later caught.
Morena Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjay Kumar Singh also reached the spot with additional police force.
The Mining Department is taking action in the matter, Mining Officer Rakesh Kaneria said adding that the incident took place on revenue land and not allotted to anyone.
Last month, young IPS officer Narendra Kumar Singh was crushed under the wheels of a tractor-trolley driven by an alleged member of the mining mafia in Morena, after he had tried to stop the vehicle carrying stones.
