Student`s suicide attempt: Case filed against college principal

Deepika Pawar, a 19-year-old student of the nursing
college associated with Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical
Sciences (SAIMS) jumped from the fifth floor of the college
building after the principal cast aspersions on her character,
She survived but sustained serious injuries and had lost
consciousness for a while.
Deepika alleged after she regained consciousness that
the college administration while questioning her absence
recently cast aspersions on her character following which she
got upset and made an attempt to end her life, the police
On the basis of the statement of Deepika, police have
registered a case against SAIMS Chairman, Dr Vinod Bhandari
and Principal, Meenakshi Masih under section 294, 323 and 506
of the IPC. These sections are related to manhandling, abuse
and threat, police said.
Separately, a case of attempt to commit suicide was also
registered against Deepika, police said.
Enraged over the incident, the nursing college students
created a ruckus in the institute and alleged that the college
principal mentally harassed them by asking uncomfortable
questions. The college management had ordered the removal of
principal yesterday itself and ordered a probe into her
