Three farmers in MP commit suicide due to crop failure

Three farmers allegedly committed suicide following damage to their crop due to frost and extreme cold wave conditions in Chhatarpur and Vidisha districts of Madhya Pradesh.

committed suicide following damage to their crop due to frost
and extreme cold wave conditions in Chhatarpur and Vidisha
districts of Madhya Pradesh.

The suicides were reported Friday night.

Kunjilal Ahirwar (28) ended his life by hanging self
himself to a tree in his field at village Pathada in
Chhatarpur district, after frost damaged his crop in five
acres, his wife Bhagunti Bai said.

In another incident, a farmer of Chhatarpur identified as
Lakhan Kushwaha (40) hanged himself at Tapriyan village, after
crop failure, his elder brother Dharmdas Kushwaha said.

He was upset over non-repayment of Rs 50,000 loan he had
taken for sowing a few months back, Kushwaha claimed.

Chhatarpur Collector E Ramesh Kumar said the district
administration has received reports of suicide and has sent a
team to verify the claims.

In Vidisha`s Rangai village, a 40-year-old farmer Dalut
Singh Kushwaha hanged himself to a tree near his field,
police said.

He was upset after his name didn`t figure in the list
of the farmers entitled to get compensation for crop damage,
they said.

Besides, he had taken a loan of Rs 25,000, police said,
adding investigations were on.
