Uma wanted to join Congress, joined BJP by mistake: Digvijay

Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Thursday claimed that firebrand right wing leader Uma Bharti had expressed desire to join Congress in 1983 but instead joined the BJP by chance.

Indore: Congress General Secretary Digvijay
Singh on Thursday claimed that firebrand right wing leader Uma
Bharti had expressed desire to join Congress in 1983 but
instead joined the BJP by chance.
"In 1983, as wished by Bharti I was bringing her to
Congress, but by mistake she got down from the train at
Gwalior and went to senior BJP leader Vijayaraje Scindia for
seeking her blessings and later got associated with the BJP,"
Singh told reporters at the Indore Press Club.

Singh also took objections when parallels were drawn
between him and Bharti.
"I am in Congress since my birth, while Uma is still
in search for a way. My path is totally clear," Singh said.

The Congress leader`s claim comes at a time when
Bharti`s re-entry into the BJP is still uncertain.

Though it seemed almost for sure that Bharti would be
re-inducted in the BJP a few weeks back when she was seen in
the company of senior leader L K Advani, differences cropped
up between some leaders on the issue.

BJP General Secretary Anant Kumar yesterday clarified
that the central leadership has not yet taken any decision on
her return to the party.
