New Delhi: Expelled BJP leader Uma Bharti
today said "for the time being" she wanted to keep closed the
chapter of her return to the party due to health reasons and
as she needed time for contemplation and mental peace.

"BJP President Nitin Gadkari and I had met today. He
asked me about my return to the party but I told him I need
more time due to health reasons and for contemplation and
mental peace due to a personal tragedy," Bharti told PTI.

Bharti said that she had suffered an injury on her head
and needed rest. She also needs time for contemplation and
some mental peace after her sister-in-law committed suicide
last year.

Asked if she had given Gadkari a timeframe within which
she would get back to him to discuss her return to the party,
Bharti replied in the negative.

"I want to keep this chapter (of her return to BJP)
closed for the time being," Bharti said.

She said soon after taking over as party president,
Gadkari -- whom she referred as her big brother -- had
approached her and asked her to come back to the party. "He
had then said that he would discuss the issue within the party
and get back to me," she said.

Asked if she was aware that some sections in the BJP
were opposed to her return to the party-fold, Bharti said, "I
am not the right person to comment on the issue."

On whether she was open to keeping away from her home
state Madhya Pradesh and working for BJP in other states as
some party leaders are apprehensive of her return, Bharti said
the question does not arise as of now.

Bharti was expelled from BJP in 2005, soon after her
outburst against senior party leader L K Advani in front of TV
cameras. She then formed the Bharatiya Janshakti Party but
remained ideologically close to the Sangh Parivar.

Of late, she has travelled with Advani to Raipur and
Somnath setting off fresh speculation that her return to BJP
was imminent. The return of another expelled BJP leader
Jaswant Singh to the party added fuel to such rumours.

But sources said her detractors in BJP have not let
Gadkari go ahead with his plans of bringing her back to the
party.
