“Sena's strong foundation helped it retain power”

Mumbai: Fresh from his victory in the Mumbai civic polls, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray has hit out at critics for predicting doom for his party saying it has been able to retain power in the civic body because of its strong foundation.

"It is only because of the strong base and foundation of social service that my party has been thriving despite vicious attacks from political rivals and the media," Thackeray said on Monday.

According to the octogenarian leader, people of Mumbai and Thane have given a befitting reply to the critics by giving a huge mandate to the Sena in the civic polls.

"I not only dreamt of public welfare but ensured the dreams were implemented by giving posts of power to the ordinary workers and getting work done from them," Thackeray said.

Thackeray said that unlike the Congressmen, he was not involved in land scams, nor mismanaged sugar co-operative units, nor constructed "Adarsh towers".

"If the Sena-BJP government had not been there in the state, would the Mumbai-Pune expressway have ever seen the light of the day or would those 55 flyovers come up in the city," he asked and said it was during his government's tenure that ambitious projects like the Krishna valley irrigation were initiated.

It was a well deserved victory for the Sena as during their rule with the BJP people have seen development all around . Once they lost power the state has come to a stand still or stagnant position. All other parties have been milking the state in the name of development and developing their own fiefdom. The case in point is the Adarsh scam and many other land scams which will surface in the near future. people have not forgotten the good work done by the party and the people will surely see a change in the comming years. Some leaders had written off Uddhav Thackray questioning his ability to lead the party.Some leaders will support only those who can find ways to create communal rift among minorities and then play sooth maker. They have never done anything worth mentioning in the last 60 yrs being in politics.Uddhav being sauve and quiet worker has been bestowed with a responsibility which we are sure he will deliver. He should also keep sweet talkers from other political parties who will now try to cosy up to him with bouquets. we hope he will keep them at bay , lest they brain wash him into faltering. Good luck Uddhav , expecting some change in the environment.
