Mumbai: Over 12,000 engineers belonging to the state-owned power companies in Maharashtra on Saturday threatened to go on a three-day strike from February 1 to protest the Government's decision to outsource distribution network in cities such as Nagpur and Aurangabad to private entities.

"We are against the franchisee model in distribution as it amounts to back-door privatisation. We want the Government not to go ahead with the proposal failing which we will go on a 3-day strike between February 1 and 3," Subordinate Engineers' Association said in a statement here.

Besides, the association has also demanded revision in the wages.

An office bearer with the association said the strike would not result in power shut-down in the state but any mechanical or technical fault would not be attended to by the engineers or the technical staff due to the strike.
