Mumbai: Over 12,000 engineers belonging
to the state-owned power companies in Maharashtra on Saturday
threatened to go on a three-day strike from February 1 to
protest the Government`s decision to outsource distribution
network in cities such as Nagpur and Aurangabad to private
entities.
"We are against the franchisee model in distribution
as it amounts to back-door privatisation. We want the
Government not to go ahead with the proposal failing which
we will go on a 3-day strike between February 1 and 3,"
Subordinate Engineers` Association said in a statement here.
Besides, the association has also demanded revision
in the wages.
An office bearer with the association said the strike
would not result in power shut-down in the state but any
mechanical or technical fault would not be attended to by the
engineers or the technical staff due to the strike.
