33,000 police & security personnel for May 30 civic polls

Around 33,000 police and security personnel would be deployed to maintain law and order during the civic polls in 81 municipalities and corporations in West Bengal on May 30, a top police officer said today.

personnel would be deployed to maintain law and order during
the civic polls in 81 municipalities and corporations in West
Bengal on May 30, a top police officer said today.

Of them only 36 companies of force would be available
from the Centre and other states, Director General of Police
Bhupinder Singh said.

"The state government, however, placed its demand for
132 companies of Central force. Lets see how much could be
available finally," the DGP said.

Meanwhile, the state Election Commission has directed
to deploy central force even inside the booths wherever
available.

The DGP said that this time the deployment of armed
police would be highest ever in any civic polls.

Elaborating the classification of sensitive booths,
Singh said that 51 wards in Kolkata`s added area would be
treated as category-I sensitive area, while wards under
Bidhannagar and Barrackpore have been grouped in category-II
and category-III sensitive areas respectively, Singh said.

Wards under the rest civic bodies in the state would
come under category-IV sensitive area, he added.
