5 CISF men accused of assaulting cops get anticipatory bail

Five CISF personnel, including an Assistant Commandant, were today granted anticipatory bail in a case registered against them for allegedly assaulting four policemen and kidnapping them with an intent to murder.

Mumbai: Five CISF personnel, including an
Assistant Commandant, were today granted anticipatory bail in
a case registered against them for allegedly assaulting four
policemen and kidnapping them with an intent to murder.

An FIR was registered against 10 personnel of the Central
Industrial Security Force (CISF), including assistant
commandant Alok Joshi, on August 13 for allegedly assaulting
four city police constables and illegally confining one of
them in a room belonging to the security force.

Five of the CISF personnel, including Joshi, approached
the sessions court seeking anticipatory bail.

"All the alleged accused are members of the armed force
and public servants. Hence the question of them absconding or
tampering with evidence does not arise. Considering the
seriousness of the allegations, a departmental enquiry is also
bound to happen," defence lawyer Raja Thakare said.

The Sewree sessions court while granting the five accused
anticipatory bail directed them to appear before the Sewree
police twice a week and to not tamper with evidence.

According to the police, police constable Pramod Tawde
was manning traffic outside Orange gate of the Mumbai Port
Trust when he saw a truck heading towards the gate plying in a
wrong direction.

When he intercepted the truck and asked the driver for
his license, CISF personnel objected and directed Tawde to
open the gate. When Tawde refused to do so, he was allegedly
thrashed by the accused. Three others who had gone to help
Tawade were also beaten up by them, they said.
