Mumbai: Politician and businessman Farhan Azmi, son of Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Asim Azmi, has received an extortion call allegedly from a suspected member of Ravi
Pujari gang, police said on Monday.
Farhan, who is also husband of actor Ayesha Takia, lodged a complaint with crime branch which is probing the matter, they said.
"According to Farhan, the caller introduced himself as member of Ravi Pujari gang, demanded some crores of rupees as 'protection money' from him over the phone recently," a crime branch official said on condition of anonymity.
Earlier this year also Farhan had complained to crime branch stating that he had received threatening call from a man claiming to be associated with underworld.
In January, Farhan contested the by-election for Bhiwandi East Assembly seat and lost to Shiv Sena candidate Rupesh Mhatre, despite the then SP top brass coming out in
full force to support his candidature.
