After 23 years, man sentenced in an attempt to murder case

A Sessions Court on Monday sentenced a man to seven years imprisonment in an attempt to murder and robbery case filed against him 23 years ago in 1987.

Mumbai: A Sessions Court on Monday sentenced a
man to seven years imprisonment in an attempt to murder and
robbery case filed against him 23 years ago in 1987.

According to the prosecution, accused Jitendra Singh
and another man, who remains unidentified till date, went
to a baker`s shop in suburban Khar on June 21, 1987 with an
intent to commit robbery.

There they confronted one Liyakat Ali, owner of the
bakery, who refused to give them money. In the ensuing scuffle
Singh pulled out a revolver and fired a round. Ali was
injured.

Singh and his accomplice fled from the spot and the
police were able to arrest Singh only last year.

Nine witnesses were examined in the case who
identified Singh as the one who opened fire in the shop.
