Mumbai: The land where the controversial
Adarsh Housing Society stands was in possession of the Army
and hence its allotment to any society was wrong, former city
collector Pradeep Vyas told a judicial panel on Tuesday.
"It is correct that when Adarsh applied for allotment
of land, the said plot was in possession of the Local Military
Authority (LMA). Hence the land could not have been allotted
to anybody without first removing LMA," Vyas said, while
deposing before a two-member inquiry commission.
The former collector, who is also an accused in the
FIR lodged by CBI in the scam, further said that since the
land was included in the proposed road widening project,
allotment should not have been given to the society.
He, however, said the state government did not receive
any complaints from the Defence Ministry from the date of
allotment of the land to the society till the time of the
scam being revealed.
Vyas is likely to finish his deposition tomorrow.
