New Delhi: The army has ordered a Court of Inquiry (CoI) into the death of an 18-year-old son of a Colonel due to drowning in Pune on Sunday.

18-year old Ambar Bin Javed, who was studying in Pune and living in the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) hostel, died while swimming in a lake there yesterday.

"We have ordered a CoI under a Colonel to probe the incident," Army officials said here today.

The CoI will look into the circumstances of his death. Colonel Javed Iqbal, father of Ambar, is posted as the Chief Legal Officer of the Assam Rifles and is based in Shillong.

According to officials, the incident took place when Ambar along with 27 other fellow residents of the AWWA hostel went for a picnic to the Viman Nagar lake near the Air Force Station, Lohegaon there.

"After a while, he shouted for help and was brought out from water. Seeing his condition, his friends rushed him to the Command Hospital where he was declared brought dead," they said.

The local police have also carried out the Court of Inquest (medical probe) and have given their report into the matter, they said.

Ambar's body is being brought to Delhi and will be taken to his village in Meerut for last rites.
