Mumbai: Former Andhra Pradesh Chief
Minister and TDP president Chandrababu Naidu`s agitation over
Babhli barrage and his arrest has evoked mixed response from
prominent Telugu associations here with some describing the
incident as a political stunt and others asking him go back to
Andhra Pradesh and move the Supreme Court on the issue.
"It appears to be a political stunt by Naidu with
by-elections in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh round the
corner," said Bhoga Sahadev (42), Secretary of The Bombay
Andhra Mahasabha and Gymkhana, a 78-year-old socio-cultural
organisation of Telugu-speaking people here.
"The issue can be settled amicably. Also, the matter
is with the apex court. Naidu`s agitation would unnecessarily
create problems for Telugu people residing in Maharashtra," he
said.
Om Padmashali Sangham president Potu Rajaram echoed
a similar view, stating that Naidu senses political gain in
the barrage row. "TDP thinks that public sentiment in Andhra
would translate into votes," he said.
Maza Maharashtra Telugu Manch, an NGO, has written to
TDP, asking Naidu and his supporters to go back to Andhra
Pradesh, approach the Supreme Court and avoid any action that
would cause inconvenience to common people along the border of
the two states.
