Mumbai: Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray continues to remain critical but stable after showing further signs of improvement Friday evening.

The improvement in the health condition of the Sena chief also led to normalcy returning to Mumbai and crowds outside his residence Matoshree diminishing. Security, however, continues to remain tight outside Matoshree.

Shiv Sena mouthpiece `Saamna` today said party chief Bal Thackeray is recovering and there is no need to worry.

"Our warrior is fighting. With good wishes and prayers of Shiv Sainiks across Maharashtra, Thackeray is recovering," an article said.

It further quoted Sena executive president and Thackeray`s son Uddhav assuring people that there is no need to worry.

"Doctors treating Thackeray have also assured that the chief is recovering. His pulse rate, heart beat and blood pressure is normal. He has 98 per cent oxygen in his blood," it said.

"We hope and pray that the Sena chief continues to respond well to the treatment being administered to him," it added.

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said last evening that "the prayers of millions of his supporters have started working" and Thackeray`s health was gradually improving.

"He is like our god. Very soon he shall be able to appear in public for his admirers," Raut assured.

Several party leaders had appealed for calm on Thursday.

Bal Thackeray has been under the care of a team of specialists from Lilavati Hospital at his home, Matoshree. According to party leaders, an ICU had been created at Matoshree with all emergency equipment and medical and para-medical staff on duty round-the-clock.

A stream of VVIP visitors continued at Matoshree yesterday to enquire about Bal Thackeray`s health, including film personalities Rakesh Roshan, Suresh Oberoi and son Vivek, yoga guru Baba Ramdev and several people from the Marathi film industry.

Barely a handful of visitors were allowed to enter where Bal Thackeray is as it is out of bounds for all barring immediate family members.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena corporators met in Mumbai today to take stock of the situation. Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray chaired the meeting.
