Bangladeshis arrested in Thane for illegal stay

Twenty-two Bangladeshi nationals have been booked under relevant sections of the Foreigners Act, 946 and Passport Act, 1967.

Thane: Twenty-two Bangladeshi nationals,
including 10 women, who were staying illegally here, were
arrested on Friday, police said.

They were found to be living in Dombivili, a suburb of
Mumbai, without valid passports or documents, they said.
Acting on specific information, Crime Branch officials
raided Motha Gaon, Bhagwan Bhoir Chawl, Motagaon Railway
crossing and Motagaon Navapada areas and rounded up the
foreign citizens, all working as labourers, they said.

They have been booked under relevant sections of the
Foreigners Act, 946 and Passport Act, 1967.

Two agents, who helped the Bangladeshi nationals sneak
into India, have also been nabbed, police said.

Addressing a press conference, Milind Bharambhe,
Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), said over the last
one month the police had intensified search for Bangladeshi
nationals residing in the city without proper documents.

The drive is yielding desired result, he said, adding
those arrested will be sent back to their country after due
process.
