Pune: BJP received a jolt on Saturday when its
candidate for the Maharashtra Legislative Council seat from
Pune, withdrew his nomination without consulting the party
bosses and facilitating an unopposed passage to the NCP
nominee Anil Bhosale.
Chandrashekar Bhosale, the BJP candidate surprised the
party managers with his decision on the last day for
withdrawal of nominations in what was expected to be a
straight contest for the election from the Pune local self
government constituency between the two Bhosales.
While the NCP camp rejoiced Anil Bhosale`s unopposed
election, the development prompted Pune BJP city unit chief
Girish Bapat to offer his resignation.
"I was not consulted by our candidate on withdrawing from
the contest which we would have won. I am sending my
resignation to State party unit on this issue", Bapat who was
in Kolhapur told PTI.
The election was necessitated following expiry of the
term of the sitting NCP MLC Vandana Chavan.
