Bombay HC imposes Rs 5 lakh cost for frivolous PIL
The Bombay HC has imposed Rs 5 lakh cost on a petitioner for filing a frivolous PIL that had sought action against top bureaucrats and cops for failing to avert Nov 26 attacks.
Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Thursday imposed
Rs 5 lakh cost on a petitioner for filing a frivolous PIL that
had sought action against top bureaucrats and police officers
for failing to avert the November 26 terror attacks.
Petitioner Goldie Sud had contended that top government
officers including state DGP and Chief Secretary failed to
protect citizens from terrorists, and action should be taken
However, division bench of Justices J N Patel and S C
Dharmadhikari held that the petition had no "foundation or
basis" and amounted to "abuse of process of court".
The Court has directed the petitioner to pay the cost
within four weeks, failing which Collector, Mumbai suburban
district may take action to recover the amount.
