Mumbai: Bombay High Court today allowed the
Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) to polish and
clean the mural at Shivaji Park, which is set to be unveiled
on Friday.

The order comes as a partial relief to Shiv Sena, the
ruling party in MCGM, which had conceived the mural.

The court, responding to a PIL yesterday, had stayed the
park`s beautification work, as well as construction of mural
which depicted the coronation of Shivaji.

MCGM today moved the court saying that the mural was
already complete and permission may be granted to clean it, as
well as to level the ground in the front, so that it could be
unveiled to mark the state`s Golden Jubilee.

The interim relief paved the way for the unveiling of the
mural.

The court, however, made it clear that today`s relief was
subject to final outcome of the PIL.

Durgesh Warty, a city resident, in the PIL has alleged
that the mural was commissioned without inviting tenders.

The next hearing is scheduled for May 5.
