Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Friday directed
state-run J J Hospital to file an affidavit stating what
treatment was given to an undertrial that died at Taloja prison
allegedly due to lack of medical aid.
The court was hearing a petition filed by Purnalaxmi,
wife of Sushanta Mistry, who was lodged at Taloja jail in Navi
Mumbai for dacoity.

"Mistry was suffering from acute malaria and was not
provided with medical aid which resulted in his death,"
Purnalaxmi`s advocate Rahul Thakur told the court.
Government pleader Purnima Kantharia, however, said
Mistry was sent to J J hospital, but he died there.

A division bench of Justices Ranjana Desai and Mrudula
Bhatkar directed the hospital doctor to file an affidavit
within a week stating the treatment given to Mistry.
