Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has congratulated Pranab Mukherjee for becoming 13th President of the country while expressing his gratitude for political parties, including Shiv Sena, that stood by the Congress veteran.
Chavan told reporters that he rang up Mukherjee in the evening to wish him glorious innings as Head of the State.
"I know his (Mukherjee`s) working style and consider myself fortunate for working with him. Mukherjee has always known where and on which date a particular meeting has taken place, who headed it, and could recall the details of the meeting in a jiffy," Chavan told a press conference.
The chief minister thanked the alliance partner NCP besides Shiv Sena which broke NDA rank to back Mukherjee in the Presidential election.
"It is not only the victory of UPA or Congress, but also that of NDA constituent like Shiv Sena which voted for Mukherjee," he said.
Terming Mukherjee as the "walking encyclopedia of the Indian political history", Chavan said, "He (Mukherjee) never denied appointments and was deft in defusing explosive situations".
