Chavan to meet Congress legislators tomorrow

Mumbai: Amid perception in some quarters that resignation of NCP leader Ajit Pawar as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister was aimed at dislodging him, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan is meeting Congress legislators here on Thursday.

"This will not be a formal meeting, but the chief minister would be meeting party legislators to mull over the present political situation," a state Congress functionary said.

The meeting should not be construed in any other way, he said.

One wonders if the Congress is sharp enough to realise that the NCP needs them more than ever. The ONLY reason the NCP is in a colaition with the Congress both in Mumbai and in New Delhi because it opens the gates to the `green pastures` of power, something that is `shared` down the line right till the Municipal Corporator`s level. Out of power NCP will simply vaporise without trace. It is the NCP which has mastered the art of appointing `concessionaires` in Indian politics and with them out, the UPA might just get cleansed. But for that the Congressmen will have to overcome their own greed for power. Will they?
