Mumbai: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram
today met Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and
senior officials of the home department here, and took a
review of the security measures taken in the Naxal-infested
districts of Gadchiroli and Gondia.
Chidambaram flew down here from Raipur.
Talking to reporters after the hour-long meeting, state
Home Minister R R Patil said security measures and the plans
to upgrade funding of development works under the integrated
action plan (IAP) in the naxal-affected areas were discussed.
"He (Chidambaram) said that state government should send
proposals for the same. State Finance Minister Ajit Pawar
would also make necessary budgetary provisions," Patil said.
When asked about the speculation that the probe of July
13 Mumbai blasts would be handed over to the NIA, Patil said
the issue was not discussed at the meeting.
