Congolese national held for smuggling drugs

The Air Intelligence Unit of Mumbai Customs on Sunday intercepted a Congolese national for allegedly trying to smuggle drugs.



Mumbai: The Air Intelligence Unit of Mumbai Customs on Sunday intercepted a Congolese national for allegedly trying to smuggle drugs.
The Congolese national, whose name was not revealed as the investigation was pending, was bound for the Congolese capital of Kinshasa via Nairobi.

He was intercepted with 5.5kg of a crystalline powder, suspected to be amphetamine, which has an estimated market value of Rs 5.5 crore.

The contraband was concealed in bedsheets, sources said.

In another case, AIU stopped one MK Ashraf, who had arrived from Dubai via Bahrain, and recovered from his possession 21 gold bars, weighing 2.436kg.

Ashraf had hidden the gold inside a socket on an emergency light.
