who indulged in a physical fight during the election for Pune rural district congress committee, Congress on Wednesday suspended
former MLA Sambhaji Kunjir and former Purandar municipal president Sanjay Jagtap from the party.
State unit president Manikrao Thakre has appointed a two-member committee comprising senior leader Ramshet Thakur and state unit officebearer Ramesh Shetty to investigate the
incident which took place at the Congress bhawan in Pune yesterday.
Further action would be taken after the committee
submits its report, a statement issued by Maharashtra Pradesh
Congress Committee (MPCC) said here today.
Unruly scenes marked the process for election of Pune
District Congress President as workers belonging to rival
factions came to blows, beating up former MLA Sambhaji Kunjir
in the melee today.
Sambhajirao Kunjir was kicked, punched and hit on the
head with a plastic chair by rival faction members at the
Congress Bhavan in Pune.
The party meeting held unanimously re-elected Devidas
Bhansali for the post.
Kunjir was allegedly assaulted in the meeting by workers belonging to the Sanjay Jagtap faction from Purandar
