Pune: In a major development, two witnesses who saw the attackers of slain activist Dr Narendra Dabholkar on August 20 morning leaving the crime scene, have approached the police. The sleuths have now prepared a sketch of the second suspect as they already have a sketch of the first.
A senior officer of the crime branch said, “On the basis of information from the eyewitnesses, we prepared a sketch of the second suspect. The sketch has been circulated to all city police stations and also other cities in the state.”
The police said the pillion rider, whose sketch was prepared, is 25 to 28 years old, had long hair and wore a green cap.
Meanwhile, the Pune police are planning to send seven more CCTV footages recently acquired by them to a London-based laboratory to get clear images of the attackers. Earlier, the Pune police had sent a footage to the London lab.
Confirming this development, Pune police commissioner Gulabrao Pol said.”Yes, we are planing to send more CCTV footages to the London laboratory to ascertain the identity of the attackers. We have already sent one footage, but if we don’t feel the footage is fruitful even after image enhancement, we would send more footages to the laboratory in the near future.”
Pune crime branch sleuths on Sunday claimed that the attackers have been captured in seven more CCTV footages from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Bhavan, Shaniwar Peth and Jungli Maharaj (JM) Road areas.
Assistant commissioner of police (crime II) Rajendra Bhambre, who is the investigating officer of the case, said, “All the CCTV footages are vital and we are analysing them.”
Bhambre has set up a special team for analysis of the footages at the crime branch office.
They have also installed two projectors and have been examining footages for the last couple of days.
The investigators said they are likely to get the ballistic report from the experts in the next couple of days.
