Dacoits loot valuables worth Rs 6L from Manpada

Thane: A group of unidentified men broke into a residence in Manpada in the wee hours of Tuesday and looted valuables worth Rs 6 lakh, police said.

According to police, the gang broke into the residence of one Ratan Madvi (60) in Usarghar area of Manpada at about 2 am and looted jewellery worth Rs 6 lakh and also attacked him and his wife Radha (56) with logs of wood.

Their six-year old granddaughter, who was sleeping with them, woke up due to the commotion, managed to escape to her parents' home, who live nearby and informed them about the incident. The couple was later admitted to a local hospital.

The police have detained six persons to probe into the incident, they added.

According to Police inspector Prakash Nilevad of the Manpada police station, this is the third dacoity in the region in the last one month. The earlier two dacoities had taken place in Thakurli and Khoni.
