Mumbai: With June recording below normal rainfall due to weak monsoon, the level of water storage in irrigation projects in Maharashtra has declined to just 18 per cent as compared to the corresponding period last year.

According to the latest report from the state Water Resources Department, there is 20 per cent storage of water in large irrigation projects.
In medium projects, the storage is 20 per cent and in small ones, it is 13 per cent. In the entire state, there are 2,441 total irrigation projects in which the storage of water is 18 per cent, the report said.
During the corresponding period last year, the water storage in the state irrigation projects was 31 per cent. Till the first week of July 2013, the water storage in large projects was 28 per cent, in medium projects it was 25 per cent and small it was 23 per cent till July, the report says.
