Amravati: The Amravati Union of
Working Journalists on Monday demanded resignation of the state
Home Minister RR Patil for "his failure in handling law and
order in Mumbai" that resulted in the daylight murder of
senior journalist, Jyotirmoy Dey.
AUWJ also demanded suspension of Mumbai Police
Commissioner "for his inefficiency in arresting the culprits".
A delegation of AUWJ today met the Collector Richa Bagla
and submitted a memorandum, expressing concern over growing
number of attacks on journalists.
Observing that the government had abysmally failed in
offering protection to the journalists, the delegation also
demanded a stringent law against attacks on journalists.
The agitating journalists complained that despite raising
this demand several times by various journalist organisations,
the government had done nothing on this front.
Representatives of print and e- media were present in a
large number on the occasion.
