Thane: The dismembered body of a nine-year-old girl missing since the past five days was found in a dense forest here, police said on Sunday.
The body pieces were found Saturday night in the dense Yeoor forests of Thane district, around 50 km northeast of Mumbai, police officer SD Kharat of Vartak Nagar police station said.
Sanskruti Yadav`s body pieces were recovered from a loudspeaker box in the forest here, he said.
A case of murder has been registered against unknown people and police are investigating whether the girl was physically abused.
The girl was reported missing from the Shrinagar area of Thane and her parents had lodged a complaint with the police.
Following an alert by forest officials, police went to the spot and broke open the box.
The parents of the girl were summoned and they identified her from her clothes, Kharat said.
