New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi
today said that the DMRC had released Rs 37 lakh as first
instalment of property tax dues to be paid by it to the civic
MCD councillors and leaders have long been complaining
that the officials of the civic body were not making enough
efforts to recover tax dues from the Delhi Metro.

Parkash Gupta said the Delhi Metro has released the first
instalment of Rs 37 lakh against the demand notice of Rs 10
crore for property tax.
"They have requested to clear the dues after reconciling
the records and calculating the tax with the local body. MCD
officials are in touch with them in this regard," he said.
Gupta said a meeting has been convened with the private
discoms under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary of Delhi to
finalise the amount of tax dues from them.
He also said the MCD is conducting a survey of properties
in the areas under its jurisdiction to identify house tax
defaulters. He noted that the civic body has announced a
settlement scheme for ex-parte cases, which will be open till
January 31, 2011.
The Chairman said the MCD has simplified the property tax
return form and reduced the earlier multi-page form to
one-page. It has also created another simple form for those
who have no change in the status of their properties and the
tax due towards them remains the same.
He said that efforts are being made to further simplify
