Bijapur: Efforts are on by special teams to rescue a four-year old girl who fell into an open borewell here last evening at Nagathana village, 26 km from here, senior officials said today.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Kavita Mannikeri and Superintendent of Police Ram Niwas Sepat are camping at the site supervising the rescue operation.

Special rescue teams from Hatti Gold Mines as well as from Sangli and Pune in Maharastra have arrived and launched efforts to rescue Akshata Hanamanth Patil, who fell into the borewell in a farm while she was following her father, a labourer.
About ten JCB Machines were engaged in the operation. Special teams personnel said the girl is at the level of 30 to 35 feet deep and they were trying to gain access by digging next to the borewell.

Bijapur in charge minister M B Patil who is in touch with district officials told PTI that a robot will also be brought to lift the girl from the borewell with a special technique.

Officials said digging was taking more time as hard rock was hampering the work. Oxygen was being supplied into the borwell to keep the girl alive.

Fire tenders are at the spot and a doctors team is ready for future course of action after the girl is rescued, Sepat told PTI.

He said due to electricity problem, the rescue operation started at 11 PM last night and at present, all necessary arrangements have been made to rescue the girl.
