New Delhi: NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Wednesday parried questions on protests over the proposed nuclear power
plant in Jaitapur in Maharashtra, but said the demand for
electricity in his home state is increasing.

"This much I can say that the state I hail from needs
electricity and the demand is more," Pawar said. He was
replying to a volley of questions on protests by Shiv Sena
over the nuclear plant in Jaitapur.
Violence and arson marked the Shiv Sena-sponsored
bandh in Ratnagiri district yesterday against the police
firing on anti-nuclear power project demonstrators in.

Prohibitory orders were also promulgated under section
144 CrPC in the coastal district after the shut-down called by
opposition Shiv Sena turned violent.
The Opposition in the state has sharpened attack on
the Democratic Front (DF) government in Maharashtra over the
proposed 9900 MW nuclear power project.
