Ex-HC Judge`s daughter gets bail in bribery case

A Special CBI Court granted bail to a former Bombay HC Judge`s lawyer-daughter arrested by CBI for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 30 lakh.

Mumbai: A Special CBI Court on Tuesday granted
bail to a former Bombay High Court Judge`s lawyer-daughter
arrested by CBI for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 30 lakh to
influence the members at National Consumer Dispute Redressal
Commission (NCDRC) through her father in a case.

Special Judge RR Deshmukh granted a bail Rs 50,000 to
Madhaveshwari Mhase-Thube and directed her to appear before
CBI twice a week.

Mhase-Thube, an Aurangabad-based lawyer, is daughter
of ex-HC Judge SB Mhase, who is currently President of
Maharashtra Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (MCDRC).

CBI had arrested Mhase-Thube on Wednesday last,
claiming "she and other absconding accused Sunil Shirole
demanded a bribe of Rs 30 lakh to exercise personal influence
through Mhase-Thube`s father with members of NCDRC for getting
a favourable order".

CBI has also said during a recorded conversation
between them (Mhase-Thube and Shirole), Mhase-Thube instructed
the complainant that the bribe amount be delivered in Pune to
persons deputed by her.

Somnath Sutar and Hansraj Singh, who had come to
collect the money, were also arrested. According to CBI, the
duo has admitted that they accepted the bribe amount at the
instance of Shirole, a Pune-based lawyer, and Mhase-Thube.

The case, pending before the NCDRC, relates to demand
of a compensation of Rs 90 lakh from a company. The case was
earlier rejected by MCDRC.
