Ex-minister gets 18-month RI for kidnapping engineer

Former minister Subodh Saoji has been sentenced to six month rigorous imprisonment (RI) under Section 353 of Indian Penal Code for obstructing the government work.

sentenced to six month rigorous imprisonment (RI) under
Section 353 of Indian Penal Code for obstructing the
government work.

A fine of Rs 2,000 was also imposed on him. He has been
sentenced to 18 months for kidnapping the then MSEB employees
including Junior Engineers - Vijay Wankhade and Vijay Jivane.

Judicial Magistrate First Class Baviskar at Mehkar tahsil
town in adjoining Buldana district imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on
Saoji for kidnapping, both the sentences run concurrently.

On October 8, 2002, he, along with supporters, went to the
electricity sub-centre at Dongaon village and kidnapped the
junior engineer Vijay Wankhade and another engineer Vijay
Jivane in his own jeep. He reached nearby Loni Gawli village
where he dropped Jivane.

In the late night on the same day, the kidnapped junior
engineer Vijay Wankhade was released at Dongaon village, which
is the native village of Subodh Saoji.

In this way, Subodh Saoji protested against the load
shedding in villages. Vijay Wankhade filed the FIR against
Saoji.
